1.  Fort Wainwright (U.S. Army) - (Cogeneration - Electricity and Heat)

Customers Fort Wainwright U.S. Army cogeneration electicity and heat.Central Heat and Power Plant was constructed in the 1940s with a major addition in the mid 1950s due to the Korean conflict. The plant has six active coal burning boilers and operational steam turbines. The plant has a capacity of 900,000 pounds per hour of steam for heat and 18 megawatts of electricity. Two major refurbishment projects were recently completed; one in 2003 and the other in 2005. The plant is operating with a full-stream baghouse which was completed in 2004.  An air-cooled condenser for the turbines was completed in 2007 which eliminates the adverse ice fog conditions affecting the Richardson Highway during extreme cold winter months. Doyon Utilities, LLC was awarded a 50 year privatization contract to operate the plant beginning in August 2008. The plant burns approximately 250,000 tons per year.

2.  Eielson Air Force Base - (Cogeneration - Electricity and Heat)

Customers Eielson Air Force Base congeneration electricity and heatCentral Heat and Power Plant has utilized Usibelli coal since construction in 1952. The plant operates six boilers and five steam turbine generators. The plant is capable of 25 megawatts of electrical generation. A full-stream baghouse and closed capture dust control system are installed and operational. The plant burns approximately 195,000 tons per year; approximately 400 tons per day in the summer and 800 to 900 tons per day in the winter. A major project, phase 1 and phase 2 has commenced to replace boilers. Boiler #6 began commercial operation in the summer of 2015 and boiler #5 will be replaced during 2016. Preliminary design is underway for additional boiler replacements.
